It’s not a bald spot it’s a solar panel for a sex machine

Welcome to my diary. The last time I had a diary, I was 10-years-old and my twin sister would spell-check it with a red pen. At the time I remember it feeling a bit invasive and possibly crying, but looking back, it’s pretty funny. I can imagine the kinds of secrets that were in those pages were the names of my school crushes (Alex) and maybe the inner-turmoil I was dealing that comes with the territory of primary school (pissing my pants at school camp).

In this diary, I plan to share the pieces I am making and the context I am making them within, maybe I will share the name of a crush, hopefully I don’t piss my pants anytime soon.

‘it’s not a bald spot it’s a solar panel for a sex machine’ hat is knitted using possum yarn from NZ and cotton yarn from Australia and inspired by a t-shirt that my friend Nancy made for a party in 2018.

I though of this ‘crown-less’ hat design when I was stalking Nancy’s old finsta and found a picture from the party. I thought it would be fun to make during my time in Thailand.

This is what I have been doing while I knit this hat:

Looking at billboards

I love billboards, especially the ones in Bangkok. I love the rate at which you drive past them, just enough for a quick read before they are gone from your sight. I love the empty ones, and I love when they are so high in the sky, it feels like a message from the heavens. Blimps feel like an urban legend, I would love to see a blimp one day. This hat, is in ways, a billboard for the head. A quick advertisement to the masses about your sexual proclivity.

Feeding dogs with my Auntie Annie

Every morning, my auntie and uncle wakes up at 5.30am to feed the street dogs around the area where they live. The dogs now recognise their car pulling up and will start to chase it down. I have a feeling the average life of a street dog in Thailand might not be great, but these dogs are pretty well looked after eating skewers of meat each morning from the hands of Annie.

Eating

After ten dedicated years of vegan and vegetarianism I broke after a night out at Hope Street Radio where I dared myself to eat a chicken nugget. First I said I only would eat chicken, then it extended to include Kangaroos because they are a pest and also a made up animal, and now, it’s everything.

I salut the vegans and vegetarians but omfg, I have eaten so much over the past three days and it has been so good.

I love Thailand, it’s only be a short but a very sweet trip.
